To mark the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Olympic Games, an Olympic event was held at the DomusVi homes in Spain. The Games were organised to remind everyone that maintaining the quality of life of seniors requires continued activity and life-long healthy habits.

Grand-parents day is celebrated in Spain on 26 July each year. The day pays tribute to the elderly, their experience, wisdom and taste for life. DomusVi chose the day on which to hold its Senior Olympics.

The various homes’ programmes included traditional activities such as petanque and bowling, relay races, dancing, music, medieval games and even TikTok competitions.

Always eager to promote enthusiasm, DomusVi offered a range of stimulating activities to residents and invited their families to get involved in the event to boost seniors’ motivation and enhance the feeling of togetherness. Some homes even decided to opt for inter-generational encounters by inviting children to form teams with their elders to compete together and share a snack.

The Senior Olympics are just one more initiative undertaken by DomusVi to fight age-related vulnerability and inactiveness through dynamism.

Throughout the day, the residents were assisted of course, during their activities, by professional and devoted staff members including psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, care assistants and socio-cultural facilitators. Thanks to their knowledge of residents’ needs and their communication skills, they were able to offer tailored care, taking into account the motor, sensory and cognitive abilities of residents, as well as their preferences.
